Hagia Sophia Museum
Hagia Sophia Museum is located in Sultanahmet area which is considered as the Istanbul Old City. Hagia Sophia receives millions of visitors annually. Hagia Sophia is without any doubt most important highlight of Istanbul city. It’s a marvel of ancient ages, built by the mighty Byzantine Emperor Justinian I in 537. The Hagia Sophia is literally 1500 years old.
The Hagia Sophia had been a church for 900 years, a mosque for 500 years. It has been a museum since 1930s, visited and admired by millions.

Hagia Sophia Museum is open everyday during the high season.
Between the 15th of April and 25th of October considered as high (summer) season.
Hagia Sophia Is Closed On Monday During Low (Winter) Season
Hagia Sophia Museum is closed on Monday during the winter season.
Between 25th of October and 15th of April considered as low season.
Hagia Sophia Museum Opening (Visiting) Hours
Between 1st Of April and 31st of October during the high (summer) season. The Museum is open from 09:00 O’clock in the morning until 19:00 in the evening.

Hagia Sophia Entrance Fee
Admission fee is 60 Turkish Lira for per person. Children under the age of 12 free of charge. Istanbul Museum Pass is valid for this museum. There is fast track advantage for private guided tours.
Topkapi Palace Museum
Topkapi Palace is also located in Sultanahmet area, within walking distance from Hagia Sophia. Topkapı Palace had been a royal residence for the rulers of Ottoman Empire. 25 Ottoman Sultans, including the Suleiman The Magnificent lived in this elegant place. Topkapı Palace is built by Sultan Mehmet II in 1461 and used as main palace until 1856.
Then Ottoman Sultan Abdulmecid decided to move to Bosphorus shores. He built the European style Dolmabahçe Palace and royal family left the Topkapı Palace.
Topkapı Palace contains 4 large courtyards to enjoy the beauty of the nature as well as the excellent view of Bosphorus. The treasury section and Harem rooms are the highlights of the palace. One of the largest diamond of the world is displayed in the treasury section.

You can visit the Topkapi Palace and Harem Rooms everyday except for Tuesday. You may consider visiting the Dolmabahçe Palace instead.

Museum, Harem and Hagia Irene can be visited between 09:00 – 18:45
October 30th – April 15th (Winter Season)
Museum, Harem and Hagia Irene can be visited between 09:00 – 16:45
Topkapi Palace Entrance Fee
Admission fee is 60 Turkish Lira for the entrance. This payment is for a standart palace visit which would probably take at least 2 hours. If you plan to see the Harem Rooms additional ticket costs 35 Turkish Lira. Istanbul Museum Pass is valid for this museum.
Topkapi Palace Museum
There are many cisterns hidden underneath the historic Istanbul. Among them the largest and most beautiful one is Basilica Cistern. Basilica Cistern is built by Byzantine Empire in 540 A.D. It is the same age as the Hagia Sophia. Visiting the Basilica Cistern provides a mystic experience. Cistern is also famous for Sean Connery‘s James Bond and Dan Brown‘s Inferno.

Admission fee is 20 Turkish Lira per person for the entrance. Children under the age of 7 free of charge. Basilica Cistern is located within walking distance from Hagia Sophia. Istanbul Museum Pass is not valid for Basilica Cistern.
Galata Tower is built by Genoese community of Istanbul in 1348 during the Byzantine period. Italian city-states like Genoa and Venice were running trade business in Istanbul and they were inhabited around present day Galata Neighborhood. They built this tower as a watch tower to observe and lead their sea trade around the Golden Horn.
The Galata Tower provides the best view of Istanbul Historic Peninsula and Bosphorus. There is a restaurant located at the top of the tower and it organizes some Turkish night & belly dancing shows.

Admission fee is 25 Turkish Lira per person for the entrance. Children under the age of 5 free of charge. Usually there is a long queue in front of the ticket office. Mind the waiting time while planning your visit. Istanbul Museum Pass is not valid for Galata Tower.
Kariye Museum (Chora Church)
Chora Church had been a monastery complex which is located outskirts of Byzantine Constantinople. Afterwards the walls of the city is enlarged by the Theodosios II and church stayed withing the extended city walls. Chora is believed to be built by the foundation of Constantinople in 4th century. The city was built by the famous emperor of Roman Empire, Constantine the Great.
The original Church is destroyed by an eartquake and rebuilt by a Byzantine Emperor, Alexios I Komnenos in 11th century. is adorned with breath-taking Byzantine mosaics. Afterwards, prime minister of Emperor Andronicus II Palaeologus, Theodore Metochites, completely changed the interior decoration of the Chora Church. Theodore Metochites was the patron of arts in Byzantine Empire during the 14th century and he invested his fortune for the adornment of Chora Church.
He lived his last years in his beloved church and buried in the Parecclesion (chapel) section of the Chora Church which is adjacent to the body of the church.

The main building of the Istanbul Archeological Museum is a Neo-Classical structure built towards the end of 19th Century. It was built by the French architect Alexander Vallaury. This late-Ottoman building has been housing one of the largest archeological collections of the world.
The Egyptian–Hittite Peace Treaty (Kadesh Tablet) which is recognized as the oldest written treaty displayed in this marvelous museum. Renowned Alexander Sarcophagus and ancient Greek sculptures can be seen as well.

Rahmi Koc Museum
Rahmi Koc Museum is located at Golden Horn (Haliç). It’s considered as the first museum which depicts the industrial changes of Turkey. The buildings are originally from the late Ottoman period. Museum complex was obtained from two old buildings: An old shipyard and an anchor factory. One of the wealthy families of the city: Koç Family, purchased unused places from the government and converted to a lovely museum.

Admission fee is 16 Turkish Lira for adults and 7 TL for the students. A visit to the submarine and boat tour costs 8 TL for adults. There is %20 additional discount for Istanbul Museum Pass holders.

Haskoy Rahmi Koç Museum
Pera area used to be very popular among the Levants during the 19th Century. People who had arrived to Istanbul via Orient Express, stayed in the lovely hotels of “Grand Rue De Pera”. Pera Palace, Bristol Hotel or Grand Hotel De Londres.
Nowadays one of these hotels converted to a cozy museum. The old Bristol Hotel building restored and opened as Pera Museum in 2005. There some of the best examples of Orientalist Art displayed in Pera Museum. You may see the local artworks too.

Admission fee is 20 Turkish Lira for a regular ticket. Groups more than 10 people pay 15 TL per person with a little discount. Entrance to the Pera Museum is free on Fridays.

The museum is open between 10:00 a.m. to 07:00 p.m. from Tuesday to Saturday. For Sundays the museum open at 12:00 to 06:00 p.m. Pera Musuem is closed on Mondays.

Sabancı Museum is created in the memory of famous Turkish businessman Sakıp Sabancı by his family. The museum displays local arts like Turkish Caligraphy and paintings.
