Bosphorus Cruise Tour with Turyol Boats, Timetable, Cost, Schedule

There are basically two options when you want to catch one of the Bosphorus tours: Sehir Hatlari Ferry or Turyol Tour Boats. Both of them located in Eminonu Neighborhood where the Spice Bazaar is also located.

First Option

Sehir Hatlari “Şehir Hatları” Ferries

Sehir Hatlari is the official government company with larger boats but less often. The journey of Sehir Hatlari starts in 10:30 in the morning and lasts until 16:30 with 3 hours break (by the Black Sea Village) included.

Eminonu is considered as transportation hub of old city. There are government ferries that leaves to Uskudar and Kadikoy (Neighborhoods on the Asian Side) The difference between the official ferries and private boats is so obvious. (Please compare the 1st and 2nd pictures in the post)

Second Option

Turyol Bosphorus Tour Boats

Turyol Bosphorus Tour Boat is a private but very reasonable company. It’s a perfect alternative to the Sehir Hatlari Ferry. Turyol provides advantage with its flexible timetable as opposed to Sehir Hatlari Ferry’s strict timetable. It’s slightly cheaper than the Sehir Hatlari Ferry too.

Sehir Hatlari ferries rest at one side of the Galata Bridge whereas Turyol Boats on the other side. Turyol Station literally faces with the Spice Bazaar as it’s clearly seen in the photo. There is a big bus station and a very busy road in between the Spice Bazaar and Turyol boats. Therefore you are recommended to use the underground passage which is usually packed with people due to cheap shops inside.

Where is Turyol Pier Located?

Turyol Pier is located Eminonu (Old City) side of the Galata Bridge. It’s accessible from Sultanahmet by 15-20 minutes walking. From Beyoglu (Taksim, Istiklal, Galata) it can be reached by funicular and metro connections.

The Turyol Pier is actually 5 minutes walk from the Spice Bazaar. If you want to find it from the Spice Bazaar, you need to go to the opposite side of the road through the street lights or underground passage. You will find the Turyol Ticket Office next to fish sandwich boats.

Flexible Turyol Timetable

It’s easy to catch one of these Turyol boats, because they leave the pier each hour. The first journey starts at 10:00 O’Clock in the morning and operates for each hour until late evening. You can get one of these boats any time in the day. That makes a huge difference.

Turyol Bosphorus Tour Cost

The price for a standart Bosphorus tour is around 20 Turkish Lira which is equal to 3 US Dollars or Euros. Children under the age of 7 is free of charge.

You can purchase the tickets from the little ticket office located in between the fish sandwich boats and turyol boats. The ticket kiosk is visible from the distance as it’s advertising with led digital board which is highlighted with giant red letters.

Turyol Bosphorus Tour Route

Turyol Bosphorus Cruise Boats is leaving the pier at Eminönü and making a round trip around the Bosphorus. It stops only at Üsküdar (Asia Side) to get more passengers.

The only disadvantage of the Turyol Boat comparing to the Sehir Hatlari Ferry: short tour route. Actually you would have seen most of the Bosphorus already, when the boat turns back from the 2nd Bridge (Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge).

The Sehir Hatlari ferry is going as far as to Black Sea coast. Which might be too far in most of circumstances. Because the long tour of Sehir Hatlari Ferry makes 6 hours round trip which means take your entire day.

Turyol Bosphorus Tour Boats’ route is much shorter. Thus the Bosphorus Journey can be combined with Half Day Istanbul Walking Tour.

Duration Of The Journey

Once the boat leave the Eminonu Pier, it comes back to the same place 1,5 hours later.

  1. I’ll go to Turkey in 10-14 Dec.
bosphorus tour timetable on that day.
    What last tour time?
    eyeryday tour or not?

    1. Hello Santhiti, Turyol Boats do the Bosphorus Cruise tour all year long. No matter it’s the high season (spring and summer) or low season (winter). Turyol Boats start operating at 10:00 O’Clock in the morning and repeating the same tour each hour. The last tour is 19:00 in the evening.

  2. Hi Serhat,

I heard that the tours leaving from kabatas tend to be nicer that the ones leaving from Eminonu. Is it accurate? Do you where I can find information about these? Thanks

    1. Hi Lucas, the ones that leave from Eminonu called TURYOL whereas the ones leaving from Kabatas called DENTUR. They are two different companies. If we compare the Classic Bosphorus Tour they are almost the same. The type of the boat and length of the trip are the same. Turyol charges 15 Turkish Lira, Dentur charges 17.5 TL for the same tour. (As of January 2019) Turyol’s schedule is much more flexible and often.

On the other hand DENTUR provides a Hop on, Hop off Bosphorus Tour as well. (Cost 20 TL) This is the unique difference between the TURYOL, SEHIR HATLARI (government ferries) and DENTUR companies. Dentur’s Hop on, Hop off tour enables you to visit the palaces one after another.

The Dentur boat stops at the Dolmabahce Palace, Beylerbeyi Palace (located on the Asian Side) and Kucuksu Kasri (Hunting Pavillion of the Sultan). If someone has told you that DENTUR tours are nicer, he/she must have meant this tour.

    1. Hi Katy, there is no online purchase as far as I know. The boats are very often and the ticket is sold directly. Please note that you have to pay in cash. I have also added some extra information about how to find the Turyol’s ticket office.
